Living, Learning, Serving

In Fall 2007 the Gandhi Memorial Center experimented with a “Semester of Living in the Light of Mahatma Gandhi’s Ideals”. The Gandhi Memorial Center invited three students from American University to be guided by the ideals of Gandhiji through study and service, living in a shared residence next to the Gandhi Memorial Center.

The students participated in a study of Gandhiji’s life and message through a course designed by the Gandhi Memorial Center and the Gujarat Vidyapith. They had the opportunity to serve the mission and ideal of the Gandhi Memorial Center through active support of its general activities and programs. Through the educational activities, cultural programs and publications of the Gandhi Memorial Center, the students were able to offer creative and voluntary service. This living, learning, serving experience provided the students with invaluable and lifelong inspiration of the ideal of Mahatma Gandhi. They will carry this ashram living experience into whatever profession or vocation they enter.
