We invite you to help us in preparation for our Gandhi Jayanti observance this year.  On the evening of October 2, we traditionally light a lamp (a diya) for each year since the birth of Mohandas K. Gandhi (1869) around the reflecting pool in front of the Golden Lotus Temple.  Perhaps you have memories of doing this as you have arrived over the years to observe Gandhi Jayanti with us.  This year is a little different in that we cannot have a large gathering in our usual way but we still want to invite you to light a lamp.  We ask you to send us a short video that you make with your phone and we will compile these video clips into one beautiful montage.  We hope to receive 151 videos, for the 151st birth anniversary of Gandhiji. We have prepared the following guidelines for this project below. You may also contact us with any questions at info@gandhimemorialcenter.org.

To submit your videos:

PLEASE SUBMIT BY SEPTEMBER 25, 2020.

*ALL FOOTAGE SHOULD BE SHOT IN LANDSCAPE FORMAT WITH THE PHONE SIDEWAYS — AND AFTER YOU LIGHT THE CANDLE OR DIYA KEEP THE CAMERA RECORDING THE VIDEO FOR 20-30 SECONDS.

  1. Film your loved ones lighting a candle, lamp or diya. You may wish to include something in the scene of personal value to you. (For example, a musician, dancer or artist may wish to include an instrument, piece of art or wear dance costume.) If children are lighting the candle, please assist them if necessary.

  2. Be sure the candle or diya is not too small in the video. Try to make sure it is close up enough to be prominent.

  3. It can be filmed wherever you are… indoors or outdoors.

  4. Sound is going to be removed so do not worry about what sounds are in the background and no need for any direct talking or messages in the video.

  5. When you start recording (REMEMBER LANDSCAPE - HOLD PHONE SIDEWAYS) - light the lamp and then let the recording go for 20 to 30 seconds. This may seem long but it will help us in editing the clips together. You don’t have to stay in the video the entire time but the candle should.

  6. Please upload your video to this Dropbox link: https://www.dropbox.com/request/cS1anIB44I1lfrhzKQi7
